ABOUT ABOUT

Join us for an exciting Sunday afternoon storytelling workshop series!

You can purchase any of these sessions individually, or save $50 off the full price by purchasing a package.

Story Jam Studio students have used our techniques for performance, business, slam wins, and personal pleasure. You'll be surprised at all of the stories you have, and we'll help you mine, craft, and share yours in an artful, effective way. You'll learn writing, public speaking, and performance techniques; and you'll get personal attention from top producers, tellers, and master coaches!

Each week, we'll focus on a different angle of storytelling.

The Sundays Sessions are:

1). MARCH 8th • WHAT’S YOUR STORY (SOLD OUT)
Led by Stephanie Rogers, producer/creator of Story Jam.
We’ll dig deep into the story well, using customized games, prompts, and memory techniques to help you best find and craft your narratives. We'll generate a catalog of stories, then use writing and performance techniques to develop them.

2). MARCH 15th (NOW MAY 31st!) • THE WRITER’S CRAFT (This has been rescheduled for MAY 31st, 2020)m 1-4:30pm
Led by Jeremy Owens, top teller/producer.
How does one compose a seemingly mundane narrative in such a way that it becomes an engaging piece performance literature? In this workshop, we’ll cull together the elements of our story/writing/or speech, and form them into a stunning narrative. Using comprehensive literary tactics, we'll learn how to infuse personality, style, humor, and vulnerability into our pieces.

3). MARCH 22nd • WINNING STORIES (POSTPONED, DATE TBD)
Led by Nestor Gomez, world’s top Moth winner/producer.
Nestor will share his insightful tools and suggestions for how you can make your story excellent, with a fully realized narrative that touches, entertains, and moves an audience in less than six minutes!

4). MARCH 29th • POLISHING YOUR PIECE (POSTPONED, DATE TBD)
Led by Archy Jamjun, storyteller/writer/professor.
Master storyteller and published author, Archy Jamjun, will guide your writing toward excellence with his editing techniques and recommendations. As the curator for Story Jam and OUTspoken, who is also considered one of Chicago’s top live lit performers, Archy will share his brilliance and skill to help you construct, and put the final touches on, your work.

5). APRIL 19th • BUILDING PRESENCE
Led by Julie Ganey, master coach/solo show artist.
Utilizing performance techniques, Julie Ganey will bring your live lit to the next level. There is no performing experience needed to learn how to apply voice, speech, movement, characterization, and persona awareness and techniques to your work. Julie will share her shrewd director and actor skills and insights, and her vast understanding of spoken word performance.

6). APRIL 26th • THE ART OF ALCHEMY!
Led by Arlene Malinowski, master coach/solo show artist.
This class will cover five simple techniques that will elevate both your material and presence onstage. We’ll discuss: how to develop an instant connection with the audience; the four-point checklist to improve your story; and strategies to take your unique style and make you and your story unforgettable. The class will also discuss Chicago's live lit scene, what not to do, and how to get gigs. Learn how to sharpen your skills and become the teller every producer wants to hire!
